Visual Arts General Information


Visual Arts Program

The Program of Visual Arts offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Art) as well as Bachelor's of Art degrees in Art and Art Education. Students may also earn a skill-based minor in a specific medium of visual arts. For a full listing of offerings and requirements please visit the online catalog.

Program Outcomes— After completing the Visual Arts major requirements, students will:

  • Demonstrate studio proficiency in hand crafted visual art production techniques.
  • Demonstrate studio proficiency in digital imaging and computer software production techniques.
  • Demonstrate methods of critical thinking through critique, compositional analysis, and interpretation of the elements and principles of design.
  • Demonstrate informed understanding and appreciation of the history of art, theories of art, and the role of art in education through written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in professional practices of visual arts documentation and presentation through portfolio production and exhibition.
  • Demonstrate leadership and self-directed learning through independent study, student research and internship.

Visual Arts Foundation Portfolio Review

Apply by May 16th (during Spring) to begin in the following Fall
Apply by September 13th (during Fall) to begin in the following Winter

All students hoping to major in visual arts are required to submit a portfolio of their foundation year work for review and acceptance into the program. To submit your work please scan, photograph and post your artwork to your Behance portfolio. Please make sure that you submit before the appropriate deadline to be considered. Notification of application results will be sent a week after the deadlines. 

All students Must meet with the Art Advisor and complete a major academic plan MAP before applying to the VA foundation review. 


Visual Arts Program Scholarship

Fall Deadline: The second Friday of August
Winter Deadline: The second Friday of November
Spring Deadline: The second Friday of March

The Visual Arts Scholarship is open to all students majoring in visual arts. Scholarships are awarded each semester. To apply for a Visual Arts scholarship please scan, photograph and post your artwork to your Behance portfolio. Please make sure that you submit before the appropriate deadline to be considered.


BFA Application

Apply one year before you plan to start your BFA. So if you plan on graduating or completing your final classes in Fall,
you need to submit your Application for the BFA in the Fall of the 
previous year.
To apply for BFA Candidacy please scan, photograph and post your artwork to your Behance portfolio.
Please make sure that you submit before the appropriate deadline to be considered.


Transfer Students

Apply as soon as possible to avoid repeating unnecessary courses

All students hoping to transfer to major in visual arts are required to submit a portfolio of their foundation year work for review and
acceptance into the program. 
To submit your work please scan, photograph and post your artwork to your Behance portfolio.
Please make sure that you also list art courses that you have taken elsewehere for consideration of transferring the credits.
Notification of application results will be sent no later than two weeks after submission.
